SUTHERLIN, Ore. - The Portland CC women's soccer team secured a key victory, taking all three points after defeating Umpqua 2-1 on the road today.
The result puts the Panthers at 6-2-1 in NWAC Region play, four points clear of Umpqua for 2nd place and a home playoff game on the horizon.
PCC had a dream start versus the host Riverhawks. Lisa Albarran scored her 2nd goal of 2021 just 30 seconds into the match. The freshman pounced on a goalkeeper error and tapped in from close range.
Umpqua answered early in the second half, as Holly Rae equalized the score in the 56th minute.
Cailynn Campbell scored the game winner in the 80th minute, as she flicked home a free kick from Annika Rahf.
"We really had a tough and gritty performance today against a very good Umpqua team," said caoch Devlyn Jeter." We had several players step up and play tough defensively. We asked Rocky Compton to play center back today, and she along with Brooke Olivera at the outside back position really anchored our defense. And Wren Louis continued her solid play providing defensive leadership at the Keeper position."
