Heartbreak in Overtime for Panther Women

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC women's soccer season came to an end with a 2-1 overtime loss to Pierce College in the first round of the NWAC Championship Tournament today at Rock Creek Fields.

After 90 minutes of regular time and a 10 minute overtime period, the visiting Raiders tallied the golden goal just 1:40 into the second overtime. Madison Ryneski latched on to a cleared ball at the top of the 18 and curled a shot just inside the right post, sending the Raider bench into celebration.

The result ends PCC's year with an overall record of 8-7-2.

Pierce scored the first goal of the game in under 10 minutes. Right back Rachel Mironchuk surprised everyone with a looped shot from 20 yards out that found the upper corner.

The host Panthers settled their nerves at that point and began to find attacking opportunities. The runs forward paid off, and in the 22nd minute, Kiara Melendez drew a foul in the penalty area. Melendez finished from the spot and tied the game.

The rest of the half was uneventful, with neither team producing much in the final third.

Action in the second half was fairly mundane also, with Pierce generating a few chances on corner kicks that were dealt with comfortably by PCC keeper Wren Louis.

An scoreless first overtime setup the quick goal from Pierce in the second overtime, which moves the Raiders on in the NWAC Tournament.
