BREMERTON, Wash. - Portland CC fell just short of a revenge win versus Olympic College today on the road, 52-50.
Though the result was not in favor of the Panthers, the 40 point drubbing that PCC suffered at the Rangers hands two weeks ago looks further in the rear view mirror after the game.
"Olympic really gave us a lesson last time we faced them, so this was a much better effort from our team," said coach Graham McFall. "The ladies were determined to make a better showing this time around. Our defense was much improved, and if it continues we will be successful going forward."
PCC started strong, and led 14-13 toward the end of the first quarter. The host Rangers fought back and managed to reclaim the lead and maintain it until the closing moments.
Malia Cabigon made a jumper with 36 seconds left, giving the Panthers a 49-48 lead and the hopes of an upset win. Alannah Northam responded for Olympic however, converting a three point play to put the home team back in front.Â
Ashley Aughterson made a free throw on the next possession, but time ran out for PCC.Â
Aughterson finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead Portland. Mariah Barazza added 11 points.
