ROSEBURG, Ore. - Needing a win to stay in the post-season conversation, Portland CC fell at Umpqua today, 94-74.
As has often happened to the young Panthers squad, they started slowly and found themselves down 16-4 with six minutes ticked off the clock. The rest of the first half was better, but the early deficit translated into a a 48-27 score at halftime in favor of the host Riverhawks.
The second half started brightly for PCC, and the visitors managed to cut into the UCC lead. A jumper from Taylor Howard made the score 55-43 and the Panthers were banking on another comeback. It was not be however, as Umpqua recovered and pushed their advantage back up to 22 points with a 12-2 run.Â
George Sadi (13 points) and Josiah Sewell (10 points) were the only Panthers in double figures. Â
The result eliminates the Panthers from the playoff picture for the 2021-22 season. PCC will try to finish the season strong over their final two games.
