PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC men's soccer found their scoring boots today versus Chemeketa with a 4-0 win at the Rock Creek Campus.
Despite stretches of solid play this season, the Panther squad has struggled to find their scoring touch in the final third. The team finally enjoyed success in front of the goal today versus the Storm, exploding for four second half goals on the way to an important NWAC Southern Region victory.
"We've been waiting for this all season," said coach Oscar Monteblanco. "We've controlled games consistently, but goals have been scarce. It feels good to put a few in the back of the net."
After an uneventful first half, it seemed as though the game was going to unfold as many have in the past. But Kevin Gonzales provided a spark just two minutes into the second period. Gonzales pounced on a miscue from the Storm defense and slotted home his first goal of the season.Â
The goal seemed to galvanize the Panther attack, and PCC put in three more in the half. Rakan Abu-Marjoub found the target in the 60th minute after combining with Isaak Arreguin. Eight minutes later Ricardo Andrade left no doubt with a finish to the upper right corner. Josue Dolores Lopez set the table with a perfect pass across the box.
Rayyan Abu-Marjoub concluded the scoring with a successful penalty kick in the 76th minute.
Mahad Malik made eight saves to keep Chemeketa off the score sheet and earn his first shutout.
