PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC men's soccer ended their season with a 5-0 regional playoff loss to NWAC's #6 ranked Everett today at the Rock Creek Campus.
The host Panthers had seen the powerful Trojans once before, falling 7-0 at the NWAC Friendlies back in August. PCC fared a little better today, but could not prevent the talented squad from the North Region from advancing to the quarterfinals.
Portland kept Everett off the board for the first 23 minutes of the game, but then surrendered two in a five minute window. The Trojans then tacked on a third just before halftime to essentially seal the outcome.
PCC managed to get forward several times in the second period in an attempt to get back in the game, winning two corner kicks and generating four shots. Everett made doubly sure of the result however, with two more goals in the 78th and 81st minute.
"The team gave a good effort today, but there is a reason that Everett has just one loss this year," said coach Roberto Maestretti. "I am proud of the players for their commitment this season, and for setting our program on the right path. There is a good base to build from for the future of Panther soccer."
