PORTLAND, Ore. - Three games, three wins for Portland CC after the Panthers defeated Wenatchee Valley today at Cascade Gym, 72-46.
The visiting Knights has lost their first two contests of the Harold Williams Invite, and were determined to make a good showing today vs PCC. WVC shot the ball well in the 1st quarter and crashed the boards for five offensive rebounds. Portland withstood the challenge however, and led 24-20 after one period thanks to a 10 of 19 effort from the field.
The Panthers owned the 2nd period, outscoring WVC 20-4 and holding the Knights to 10 percent shooting (2 of 20). Rakyah Clayton was a spark of the bench, scoring both of her shot attempts and running the offense effectively.
PCC continued to frustrate the Wenatchee scorers in the 3rd period, and ran away to a lead that reached 34 points (64-30). The Knights recovered somewhat in the final moments and made a run but the game was out of reach.
Raven Parson ended up leading PCC in scoring with 11 points off the bench. Clayton finished with 10 points and six rebounds, while Iris Cubit added 10 points.
