PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC picked up another important win yesterday, defeating Clark College 68-61 to keep pace in a crowded NWAC South Region field.
The visiting Penguins had trouble scoring versus PCC for the second time this season, and the host Panthers did just enough offensively to secure the win.
Holding Clark to 41 percent shooting and forcing 15 turnovers, the Panther defense was stingy all game. Despite scoring the ball at a 50 percent clip, PCC was never able to pull away convincingly but made enough plays in the final five minutes to earn the victory.
With the score tied at 53-53 with five minutes to play, Hayden Rose came alive and scored 10Â of his 18 points down the stretch to lead the Panther surge. Josiah Sewell also scored a crucial layup in the final moments to help PCC over the top.
Sewell is rounding into form while recovering from an ankle injury and finished with a team high 21 points. Rose (18), Josh Lincoln (14), and Jackson Galliardi (11) also scored double figures. Â
