TUKWILA, Wash. - The Portland CC women's soccer team fell to North Idaho 3-0 in their season opener at the NWAC Friendlies.
The Panthers are the NWAC Southern Region defending champions, but 1st year head coach Shawn Bundy leads a roster that is completely new to the program. Sophomore Melissa Fraijo, who played for Portland during the 2021 season, is the lone veteran on the squad.
The young Panthers put forth a spirited effort versus the Cardinals, staying organized on defense and taking opportunities to move to the attack. PCC was outshot 14-2 for the game, but held NIC to just one corner kick and did not surrender a 2nd half goal until the final minute.
Fraijo registered both attempts at goal for PCC, one of which forced a save from the Cardinal goal keeper.
Aleena Calvert and Shay Nylander shared time at goalkeer for the Panthers.Â
PCC will play again tomorrow at noon versus Columbia Basin.
