OREGON CITY, Ore. - Portland CC earned a much needed road win with a 77-66 result over Clackamas CC yesterday at Randall Hall.
The Panthers put forth a consistent effort from start to finish versus a very strong Clackamas team, and the victory keeps PCC in a good position for a playoff spot.
The first half ended up as the best shooting performance for PCC all season. After hitting 9 of 14 attempts in the 1st quarter, the team went 8 of 9 in the 2nd. For the game, the Panthers finished at 58.8 percent (30 of 51) - by far the top mark of the season.
Despite the hot shooting, Portland was unable to shake the host Cougars. PCC's lead of seven points (42-35) at halftime was far from comfortable as Clackamas was also scoring efficiently and also getting to the free throw line.
PCC managed to pull away in the 3rd quarter, doubling their lead to 14 points (61-47) as the Cougar shooters cooled off considerably.
Portland managed the 4th quarter with limited turnovers, and making 6 of 8 free throws which kept Clackamas at arms length. Kirsten Martin and Cara Dinneen each hit clutch three pointers in the period which gave the Panthers breathing room to complete the road victory.
Iris Cubit was a force inside, scoring 20 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Cheyann Ashworth added a season best 19 points.
