PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC men's soccer was hoping to gain ground in the NWAC South standings, but fell 2-1 at home today to Southwestern Oregon at the Rock Creek Campus.

The Panthers started brightly, with two shots attempted and two corner kicks won inside the first 10 minutes. The visiting Lakers changed the game however, with a goal against the run of play. Yandell Hernandez scored at the back post after a counterattack to put SWOC ahead in the 16 minute.

PCC responded with a quick attack in the 34th minute. A through pass from Mohamud Abdikadir found Gerardo Contreras in stride down the left. The sophomore finished to the far post to tie the game.

Unfortunately, SWOC took the lead for good in the 42nd minute. A foul in the box put Dingiswayo Nyirenda at the spot for a penalty try. PCC keeper Joseph Roeper dove left and got a hand to the shot, but couldn't keep it out.

The second half saw only eight shots total between the two teams, and Portland could not find any clear looks for an equalizing goal.
