ROSEBURG, Ore. - After a tough loss at Umpqua by the score of 59-54, Portland CC's playoff chances took a hit with one more game to play on the season.
An ongoing trend for PCC has been a quarter where the team struggles to score. This game featured the 2nd period where the Panthers were outscored 21-9 which allowed the host Riverhawks to enjoy a 31-17 lead at halftime.
Facing another sizable deficit, Portland began the comeback in the 3rd quarter, and continued to chip away into the 4th. PCC used all their energy to cut the gap all the way down to one point (55-54) with 52 seconds to play. Unfortunately, Portland would not score again, and UCC made 4 of 4 free throw attempts to finally secure the win.
Cara Dinneen continued her strong play with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Iris Cubit added 14 points and 9 rebounds.
PCC now sits in 5th place at 9-6 in the NWAC South standings, one game behind Chemeketa and 1/2 game behind Clackamas. PCC hosts Mt. Hood on Wednesday in a must win scenario, and will await the results from the rest of the region to learn of their fate.
