SALEM, Ore. - Portland CC took care of business on the road yesterday, defeating Chemeketa CC 90-72 and staying atop the NWAC South Region standings at 8-1.
The game was close in the early going, with three lead changes and three tie scores. PCC inched in front at 18-16 thanks to a Jahvari Martino basket, and PCC led the rest of the half. The advantage never reached double figures however in the period, and the host Storm trailed just 45-41 at halftime.
Chemeketa scored the first five points of the second half to take their last lead of the game. With the game tied at 49-49, PCC took control with a 12-0 run. The Panther lead grew from there, reaching as much as 20 points (88-68).Â
Martino led PCC with 23 points. Hayden Rose shook off a rough first half to finish with 22 points and eight rebounds.
PCC remains atop the region standings at 8-1, two games clear of Southwestern Oregon in the race for the league title.
