PASCO, Wash. - Portland CC came up short in the NWAC Tournament Semifinal game today, falling to Green River 91-72. The Panthers ended their 2023-24 season with a record of 25-5.
Green River led from the jump, scoring the first 11 points of the game before PCC could blink. The Panthers did recover to tie the game at 15-15, and then kept the score close for the remainder of the first half. Jahvari Martino scored a layup in their final possession, making the score 49-44 in favor the Gators heading into the locker rooms.
In the second period, GRC continued to score the ball with a high percentage, and took advantage of careless ball handling from Portland. The Panthers finished the game with 15 turnovers, which directly led to 24 points for Green River.Â
The Gators stretched out their advantage to 14 points (66-52), then PCC made one last push to cut the gap to 68-62 with 9:42 remaining. From there, the Gators punished PCC for every miscue and answered every Panther basket with a clutch shot of their own.
Jahvari Martino led Portland with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Josh Lincoln added 15 points including four makes from three point range.Â
Portland's 25 wins on the season is second most in program history, and their 15 wins in region play is the most in program history and resulted in their 3rd South Region Championship.
