Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Panthers Break Through, Defeat Tacoma 3-1

TACOMA, Wash. - Portland men's soccer earned their first win of 2024 with a 3-1 win over Tacoma on the road today.

The improvement of the Panther squad has been evident over the last few games, with the team learning to play together as a unit under coach Roberto Maestreti's desired tactics.

The Panthers put together their best half of the season thanks to goals from Alexis Llamas and Gerardo Contreras, and a focused and disciplined defensive effort.

PCC outshot Tacoma 6-3 in the first period, but faced a Titan squad that was determined to turn things around after halftime. Portland found themselves absorbing pressure for most of the period, but remained steadfast in front of goalkeeper Jospeh Roeper who made six total saves. PCC put the game essentially out of reach in the 78th minute, as Kaito Thammavong scored against the run of play to make the score 3-0.

The Titans finally solved the Panther defense with a goal in the 89th minute, but PCC held on to the final whistle to claim the victory.

Portland will play their first home contest of the season on Friday, September 13 vs Pierce College.
