PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland enjoyed a 34-30 lead part way through the 3rd quarter, but it was Yakima Valley that finished stronger to best the Panthers 71-43 yesterday at Cascade Gym.
It was a near mirror of PCC's game versus Olympic the night before, with the Panthers fighting hard for a slim second half lead only to see a lid go on the rim and their opponent suddenly find the range.
The Yaks outscored Portland 26-8 in the 4th quarter, wiping out the hard fought advantage and allowing Yakima to pull away in the final period for the win.
Once again PCC rebounded the ball well, out performing their foe 46-45 on the glass. An unfortunate trend continued as well, with the Panthers making just 15 of 32 tries from the free throw line.
Eva LeBlanc was a bright spot, scoring 11 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Kamakila Waiwaiole added nine points. Norma Alcazar provided a nice lift off the bench with five points and four rebounds.
