EVERETT, Wash. - A valiant effort by Porltand CC came up short versus Everett yesterday, with the Panthers falling 55-52 to the tourney hosts.
PCC trailed by 12 points at the end of the 3rd quarter, then proceeded to out score the Trojans 16 to 7 over the final 10 minutes. This included a 10-2 run to close the game, but two missed shots and two turnovers in the final two minutes prevented the Panthers from completing the comeback.
Portland will look at the stats and scratch their heads at the result, as the Panthers won the rebounding battle by an astounding 63-33 margin which included 27 offensive rebounds. Eva LeBlanc (17), Abbie Scharringhausen (11) and Norma Alcazar (11) helped PCC dominate the boards but the caroms didn't translate into enough points to get the victory.
Kamakila Waiwaiole led the way with 14 points, while LeBlanc added 10. Alcazar added a career best 12 points off the bench.
