PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland couldn't crack a determined defensive effort from Southwestern Oregon, resulting in a 70-61 loss to the Lakers at Harold Williams Court.
The Panthers finished the game shooting just 39 percent (25 of 63) and just 6 of 27 from three point range.Â
SWOCC opened up a 15 point lead in the first half, taking advantage of Portland's scoring troubles. Portland rallied with seven straight points to close the half, making the score 35-29 at the break.
The Lakers used some mismatches in the second half to again move out to a 15 point lead (67-52) with 7:10 to play, and again PCC fought back to make it a six point game (67-61) with just over a minute remaining. Unfortunately, the Panthers would not score again and saw the Lakers earn the important region win.
Daniel James found room in the paint to score 21 points and grab 13 rebounds. Jackson Leach (11) was the only other Panther in double figures.
The result moves SWOCC into a tie with Portland for 2nd in the NWAC South standings at 9-4. Clark is the current leader at 9-3.Â
