PORTLAND, Ore. - Both teams cleared 50 percent shooting for the game, but Mt. Hood CC was slightly better during a 92-85 win over Portland today at Cascade Gym.
The host Panthers found success from inside and out on the way to a 31 of 61 shooting performance, but the Saints matched every shot while pulling away in the second half.
Ball handling proved to be a key stat for the game. PCC committed 15 turnovers which is only slightly more than normal, but Mt. Hood capitalized on those miscues for a difference making 19 points.
At the 12:14 mark of the 2nd half, Jace VanVoorhis tied the game at 54-54 with a jump shot. The Saints took control at that point with a 12-2 run and never trailed again. PCC closed to within five points on two occasions but could not get the needed stops down the stretch.
Jackson Leach led PCC with 21 points. VanVoohis finished with 19 points and four assists.
