PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC held off Rogue CC 1-0 today at the Rock Creek Campus, clinching the NWAC South Region Championship in the process.
The Panthers once again relied on their defense to make the difference, allowing just five total shots and registering their 6th shutout of the season.
A single goal from Henry Hubbard in the 20th minute stood up for the rest of the game. Hubbard finished in fine style, taking a pass from Yahir Galindo at the top of the penalty area and firing into the top corner.
The championship marks Portland CC's first South Region title since 2017 and just the second region championship in program history.
The result puts the Panthers record at 6-1-2 (20 points), which is six points clear on the top of the table with one game to play. The title is a significant milestone in the first season under Head Coach Hunter Hodgkins.
Portland will finish the regular season next week at Chemeketa, then await a to-be-determined opponent in the NWAC Tournament.
