COOS BAY, Ore. - PCC men's soccer continued their climb up the region standings with a gritty 2-0 win at Southwestern Oregon yesterday.
The Panthers got off to a bright start thanks to David Olvera's 5th goal of the season in the 10th minute. The freshman forward took a pass on the right wing after a pass from Yahir Galindo and fired a shot from 6 yards at a tough angle. A sliding defender got a touch to the ball but deflected its path up and over the goalkeeper and into the net.
The rest of the first half and most of the second transpired with with few opportunities for either team.
Carlos Roblero provided an insurance goal for PCC in the 89th minute. The winger tallied his first goal of the season at a perfect time, slotting home a close range shot after his initial effort was blocked by the keeper.
The Panther defense was stout as usual, with Diego Calderon getting the start and picking up the shutout. PCC has conceded just 5 goals on the season, tops in the NWAC South Region.
