After two seasons in charge of Panther Basketball, coach Cameron Mitchell has set the standard of success at Portland Community College. He is now the two-time NWAC South Coach of the Year after leading PCC to consecutive region championships. The Panthers have 45 wins over the past two seasons - the best two year stretch in program history. Seven players have earned All-Region honors under his leadership.
Mitchell enters his 3rd season as head coach of the Panthers with the goal of another region championship, and sending as many players as possible on to four-year universities to continue their athletic and academic journeys.
Prior to his time at PCC, Mitchell spent five years as the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Clackamas High School. During his tenure at Clackamas the Cavaliers won two Mt. Hood Conference titles, qualified for the Oregon HS state championship tournament, and saw multiple student-athletes move on to the next level. Mitchell was named the Mt. Hood Conference Coach of the Year in 2021, leading the Cavaliers to a perfect 13-0 league record.
Before Clackamas, Mitchell served as an assistant coach at Whitworth University and was part of a 23-5 season that saw the Pirates return to their 11th straight NCAA tournament appearance. During the 2015-2016 season, Mitchell began his college coaching career as an assistant coach at City College of San Francisco, one of the top junior college basketball programs in the nation. Mitchell helped lead player development workouts, scouted upcoming opponents and recruited multiple all-league student-athletes. The team finished 32-1 and won a CCCAA State Championship.
Mitchell, a Portland native, graduated from Willamette University with a BA in History, a MA in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco, and a MA in Teaching from George Fox University. At Willamette Mitchell was a two time all league and all west region performer on the basketball court. He continued his basketball career overseas, playing professionally in Ireland, Australia, and Chile.
