Panthers Edge Lane, Jump to 2nd in Region

PORTLAND, Ore. - A late goal from Kiara Melendez sent Portland CC past Lane 2-1, and jumped the Panthers up to 2nd place in the NWAC Southern Region standings.

The Panthers record now stands at 4-2-1 in region action, just behind leaders Clark College and firmly in a playoff position.

Mya Smith put Portland on the board first, as she gathered the ball amd finished from close range after a mad scramble in the box.

The visiting Titans evened the score a few minutes later in much the same fashion. The ball was poked in the net after pinging around the box following a corner kick.

Melendez fired home the game winner late in the second half. The freshman sailed a shot from 15 yards over the goalkeepers reach and into the top corner.

PCC wil attempt to continue their winning ways on Friday, October 8 versus Chemeketa.
