LONGVIEW, Wash. - Contributions from multiple players made for a successful weekend for the PCC men's basketball team.
The action from Longview resulted in wins over Walla Walla and Lower Columbia, surrounding a loss to Whatcom.
GAME 1Â
Friday night saw the Panthers defeat a strong team from Walla Walla CC 80-76. The game was close throughout, with 8 lead changes between the team over the 40 minutes of play.
As expected the matchup went down to the wire. With the score tied at 74-74 with 1:41 to play, The Panthers outscored the Warriors 6-2 down the stretch to secure the victory
Trevon Richmond scored 15 points to lead the PCC effort. Ryann Ballah led a strong bench contribution with 11 points.
GAME 2
Another strong opponent awaited Portland on Saturday, and this time the Panthers faltered a bit in the closing moments which allowed Whatcom CC to pull away for a 90-83 win.
The halftime score was all even at 39-39, but the Orcas crept in front and stayed there for most if the second period. PCC closed within one point (79-78) with 3:35 remaining, but Whatcom scored five straight at that point and then kept the Panthers at arms length the rest of the way.Â
Richmond again was the top scorer for PCC, dropping 27 points. George Sadi added 19, but the duo could not overcome the 32 scored bt Whatcom's Kaleb Smith.
GAME 3Â
Portland rebounded on Sunday for a satisfying win. The game was rematch with Lower Columbia, who had defeated the Panthers ten days ago at Cascade Gym. This time PCC emerged victorious 70-60.
Trailing 28-23 at halftime, PCC was perhaps looking at a repeat result versus the Red Devils but an inspired second half led by George Sadi's 17 points in the period sent the Panthers to the win.
The Panthers slowly chipped away at the LC advantage, and took the lead for good on Jaylen Lyday's three point play with 6:48 to play.
Lyday finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds, both season highs for the sophomore. Sadi added 20 points.
