ALBANY, Ore. - A strong first half by Portland CC resulted in a four point lead at the break, but cold shooting in the second doomed the Panthers to a 87-64 defeat to Treasure Valley CC on Friday afternoon.
The 2nd quarter was particularly good for the Panthers, who exploded for 28 points during the 10 minutes of action. PCC shot 50 percent in the period, led by Ashley Aughterson's 10 points. Taking a 42-38 lead into the locker room, coach Graham McFall and the team felt good about their prospects for the game.
The plot went astray however starting in the 3rd quarter, as PCC hit just 4 of 19 shot attempts in the period. The Chukars took advantage and turned the four point deficit into a nine point lead.Â
TVCC eventually led by as many 23 points before a late scoring burst from the Panthers closed the gap in the final two minutes.
Aughterson was the top scorer for PCC with 14, and the freshman added a team high 8 rebounds. Madilyn Meadows added 13 points.
PCC managed to make just 3 of 20 tries from three point range.
