ALBANY, Ore. - After building a sizable lead, Portland CC held off a late charge from Linn-Benton to escape with a 92-89 win tonight in Albany.
The Panthers used a 55 percent shooting effort in the first half to build a 13 point advantage at the break, and then led by as many as 18 (58-40) after scoring the first five points of the second half.
The gap in favor of PCC hit 18 points once again (83-65) with 7:19 to play, then the game turned in favor of Linn-Benton.
The host Roadrunners began to claw back into the contest, and cut the score all the way down to 90-89 thanks to a hot streak of shooting from the three point line and 22 points from Ayden Foster.
Time ran out for L-B however, and a pair of free throws from Ambrose Johnson gave PCC the needed cushion to emerge with the Southern Region win.
Treyvon Richmond led a balanced Panther attack with 22 points. Four other players reached double figures - Josiah Sewell (17), George Sadi (13), Taylor Howard (12), and Jackson Galliardi (10). Galliardi also led PCC with 10 rebounds, completing his double double.
