PORTLAND, Ore. - A big 3rd quarter from Portland CC allowed the Panthers to cruise to a 61-37 win over Grays Harbor tonight at the Harold Williams Invite.
The 2022-23 version of the Panther women features many new faces, several of which were key to the victory. Malia Cabigon was particularly effective, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
With so many new players, the first half was a bit disjointed and shots were not falling. PCC did enough to lead 27-20 at the break, and a three at the buzzer by Maria Barraza provided that margin.
The Panthers opened up in the 3rd quarter, scoring more points in the period (28) than in the entire first half. Barraza came of the bench to score eight in the frame, and PCC as a team hit 11 of 13 atempts from the floor.Â
The Portland shooters cooled off in the 4th quarter, but held the visiting Chokers to six points the rest of the way en route to the victory.Â
