PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC women's basketball had their six game wining streak snapped by Clackamas today at Cascade Gym, 66-51.
A run of games with solid offensive performances gave way to a tough Cougar defense, which held PCC to 29 percent shooting. It was especially grim for the Panthers from three point range, hitting just 5 of 22 attempts.
The Panthers stayed in the contest with some stout defense of their own, never letting Clackamas get a firm grip on the game. Clackamas managed just 38 percent shooting, but it was enough to earn the NWAC win and solidify their hold on 2nd place in the region at 9-1. PCC remains in 3rd place at 6-3.
Clackamas won each quarter by small margins, slowly pulling ahead and thwarting every comeback attempt from PCC. The visitors led by three after the first quarter, and by eight at halftime.Â
The second half was much the same, with Clackamas adding just seven more points to their advantage. While the shots were not falling for Portland, they did manage a good effort from the free throw line, making 16 of 17 tries.
Madilyn Meadows led PCC with 14 points, while Iris Cubit and Nia Bradley added 10 each.
The Panthers will face the NWAC's top ranked team next Monday, as Lane CC will visit Cascade Gym.
