PORTLAND, Ore. - For the second game in region play, Portland CC couldn't find their shooting touch during an 83-77 loss to Umpqua Community College today at Cascade Gym.
The Panthers were especially deficient from three point range, making just 3 of 20 tries from that distance.
Despite the scoring challenge, the host Panthers mounted a late surge to make the game interesting. The Riverhawks led by as much as many as 19 points (57-38) and looked to be cruising to the win.
At that point, PCC abandoned the long distance shots and began to attack the basket. The Panthers made 17 of 21 free throws in the second half, which was key to the point swing and nearly brought them all the way back.
Umpqua did nopugh down the stretch to earn the win however, coming up with clutch baskets and hitting many of their own tries from the charity stripe.
George Sadi cut to the rim for 25 points to lead PCC. Trevon Richmond added 12 points, making all eight of his free throw attempts. Ryann Ballah made an appearance in the starting lineup and led the Panthers with seven rebounds.
Umpqua's Nathan Webb was a handful all night, leading all scorers with 32 points.
