TUKWILA, Wash. - Portland found their scoring boots on the second day at the NWAC Friendlies, resulting in a 3-3 tie versus Walla Walla CC.
Though PCC can be encouraged by the goals scored, the team also comes back to Portland a bit disappointed. The Panthers built a 3-1 lead, only to see Walla Walla answer with a pair of goals in the second half - the final one was essentially the last kick of the game.
Carlos Lazaro tallied a brace of goals for PCC, while Alex Martins added a his second goal of the friendlies.Â
Mahad Malik made four saves in goal for PCC.
"What I always enjoy about the Friendlies is that you are pair against a different Region, which means a different style of play." said coach Oscar Monteblanco. "In this particular case we went against two top opponents representing the North and East in Walla Walla, and Everett CC. Both teams play a very direct style of play, which challenged our back line throughout the game. This is an area that needs to improve as we move into our Conference schedule."
"After letting game one get away from us, I was very encouraged by the character of our players during game two. It was a combination of intelligent play, good attitude, and hard work that put us in the position to win. Unfortunately we conceded on the last play of the game….a teachable lesson for all of us."
