PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC displayed a much improved attack on the way to a 5-0 win over Blue Mountain CC yesterday at the Rock Creek Campus.
The Panthers put four goals past the visiting Timberwolves defense in the first half, controlling the action with a dominant midfield. Mya Smith started things off in the 11th minute with a drive from 20 yards out that found the upper corner.
Paige Nguyen scored her first goal of the season just two minutes later, tapping home a rebound from 6 yards out.
PCC continued to make things difficult for the visitors by shutting down passing lanes and causing turnovers. Lisa Albarran found the net in the 28th minute with a shot from distance, then Jordyn James added the fourth goal from an angle after combining with Annika Rahf.
Blue Mountain adjusted well after the break, holding the Panthers to a single goal in the second half and forcing goalkeeper Kiara Melendez into a pair of saves.
Mya Smith converted a penalty kick in the 64th minute to conclude the scoring.Â
Portland will open region play versus Clackamas on Wednesday, September 7.
