PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC opened their Southern Region schedule with a bang, defeating Clackamas CC 4-0 today at the Rock Creek Fields.
The Panthers peppered the Clackamas goal with 25 total shots and stayed on the attack for major portions of the game. In the first half alone, PCC launched 15 shots toward goal. The visiting Cougars managed to hold up well under the pressure, thanks to seven saves from keeper Aaliyah Asad. The Panthers broke through just before halftime, as Paige Nguyen found the net with Kiara Melendez assisting.
In the second half, Clackamas ventured forward with a bit more purpose, forcing PCC goalie Sophia Barr into five saves. The shift in tactics resulted in exposure at the back, which the Panthers exploited for three more goals.
Nguyen added her second goal in the 47th minute, tapping home a rebound. Ava Martins and Lisa Albarran tacked on goals in the 74th and 87th minutes respectively, completing the scoring as the Panthers won convincingly in the end.
PCC will continue region play on Friday, September 9 versus Umpqua.
