ROSEBURG, Ore. - Portland CC picked up their first win of the season, defeating Grays Harbor 84-66 at the Umpqua Invitational today.
The Panthers were determined to be aggressive offensively, and it paid off with better looks at the rim and more interior scoring. PCC scored 52 points in the paint and went to the free throw line 22 times, making 16 of them.
A fast start for PCC also helped the cause, as the Panthers scored the first 12 points of the game and never trailed. In fact, PCC led 25-2 midway through the first half.
The Chokers did recover however, and cut the margin down to just 41-32 at the break.
Grays Harbor made it a game in the second period, closing withing a single basket (46-44) with 16:50 to play. The Panthers restored order however, and pulled away to win by the final spread of 18 points.
Josh Lincoln powered inside for 18 points and seven rebounds to lead PCC. Jahvari Martino, Edy Essien, and Hayden Rose all added 17 points each.
