EVERETT, Wash. - Portland CC made it 10 wins in a row to start the 2023-24 season, defeating Wenatchee Valley CC today 83-44 at the NWAC Crossover in Everett.
It is by far the best start to a season for the Panther women's basketball program. In fact, PCC has reached 10 total wins in a season just five times in their 20 seasons in existence. The streak is indicative of how the culture and expectations surrounding the program have shifted under 3rd year head coach Graham McFall.
"We've started strong and the players believe in each other," said McFall. "A winning streak like this always feels good, but we also know that a very tough region schedule is ahead of us. We will face some very strong and well coached teams. We look forward to the challenge."
The win over the Knights today was decided in the first half as PCC held Wenatchee to 14 points before halftime, and only five points in the first quarter. Meanwhile the Panthers were solid if not spectacular in scoring the ball, and ended up enjoying a 42-14 lead heading into the break.
Wenatchee put up a fight in the second half, but Portland never let them off the mat. PCC's largest lead of the game was 39 points toward the end of the game, and their 10th win in as many games was never in doubt.
Iris Cubit dropped in 18 points to lead the Panthers, including an 8 of 9 effort from the free throw line. Raven Parson added a season high 15 points in 22 minutes off the bench.
