PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland CC women's soccer team put forth a solid effort but came out on the wrong side of a 3-1 score versus Rogue CC today at the Rock Creek Fields.
The visiting Ospreys were flying high thanks to a goal in the fist minute. Rogue's first attack of the game resulted in a goal from Sophia Jacobs-Sorce, who scored from six yards out after an initial shot that rebounded off the post.
PCC responded five minutes later off the foot of Jacky Bernabe Salana, who unleashed a free kick bullet from 20 yards that found the upper corner.
Mary Whalen put Rogue back in the lead with a free kick of her own from outside the box in the 27th minute. Her attempt fooled Panther keeper Aleena Calvert and squeezed in at the left near post.
The score remained 2-1 for the remainder of the first half, and nearly all the second. Rogue tacked on their third goal with essentially the last play of the game, thanks to Jacobs-Sorce once again.
PCC out shot the Ospreys 21-13, but Rogue keeper Esma Barnes made eight saves to keep the Panthers at bay.
