Panthers Break Through, Defeat SWOC 2-0

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC put a mark in the win column today with a 2-0 win over Southwestern Oregon at the Rock Creek Field. It's the first win of the season for the Panthers and evens their NWAC South record at 1-1.

The rapidly improving Panthers were able to make connections through the midfield and find better opportunities to score. PCC was able to set the tone with an early 12th minute goal from Melissa Fraijo. The sophomore took a perfectly weighted through pass from Mariana Flores and finish the breakaway past the Laker keeper.

The second goal came from Helen Rodriguez just before halftime. Jasmin Lopez looped in a quality corner kick, which Rodriguez punched home for her first collegiate goal.

The Panther defense made the score stand up for the rest of the game, and goalkeeper Aleena Calvert came up big with eight saves to earn her first clean sheet.
