PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC notched their eight straight win with a 76-72 win over Umpqua yesterday inside Cascade Gym.
The Panthers had been tormenting teams with a relentless offensive attack, hitting at least 100 points in five straight games. The visiting Riverhawks made things more difficult for PCC, holding the home team to 24 points under their season average.
On a night where the shots were not falling, the Panthers dug in defensively and held Umpqua to 37 percent shooting. Another key stat was PCC's 18 offensive rebounds that led to 18 second chance points.
With the game tied at 72-72 with 53 seconds to play, Hayden Rose collected one of four offensive rebounds and was fouled. The sophomore calmly sank both. PCC got the stop the needed at the other end, and Rose secured the hard fought win with two more clutch free throws with seven seconds left.
Jahvari Martino scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead PCC. Josh Lincoln added 16 points.
