PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC remained undefeated on the season after defeating Southwestern Oregon 63-54 at Harold Williams Court.
The visiting Lakers gave PCC all they could handle, and it took a dominating 4th quarter effort for the Panthers to pull off the win.
SWOCC started the game with the hot hand, hitting eight of their 15 attempts while Portland struggled to score. The Lakers led 13-5 midway through the 1st period before PCC rallied to make the score 20-18 at the end of the quarter.
Portland picked up the defensive intensity in the 2nd quarter, holding the Lakers to 28 percent which led to a 35-32 lead for the Panthers at halftime.
The 3rd quarter belonged to the visitors, as SWOCC surrendered just nine points and built a 51-44 lead heading into the final frame.
Cara Dinneen led a 4th quarter charge for Portland, scoring nine points and anchoring a defense that held the Lakers to a single field goal. Alex Saunders also came up with two crucial offensive rebounds and putbacks to help rescue PCC from suffering their first defeat.
Dinneen led all players with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Iris Cubit added 14 points and eight rebounds. Saunders contributed a season best nine points and eight rebounds - seven of which were on the offensive side.
