EUGENE, Ore. - Portland CC headed to Eugene yesterday hoping to gain ground on region leading Lane CC, but came up short in a 66-60 loss to the Titans.
The final stats tell the story, as Lane's defense focused on sealing off the paint and making PCC beat them from the outside. The Panthers ended up shooting a season high 26 shots from three point range, making just four.Â
Portland managed to find enough quality looks at the basket to lead 34-33 at halftime. Iris Cubit scored eight points in the first quarter, the Cara Dinneen put seven in the 2nd period.
The host Titans edged ahead in the 3rd quarter. The teams traded baskets while the score was tied seven different times in the period. Lane scored the final two buckets heading into the 4th quarter, and did not trail again.
Lane then started the final period on a 8-1 run to take control, then held of every PCC comeback attempt. The Panthers fought back to within five points (61-56), but their three point attempts were still not connecting and LCCÂ made some clutch shots and free throws down the stretch.
Cubit finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead PCC. Lilly Walker and Cara Dinneen added 11 points each.
Portland sits tied for 3rd place in the NWAC South standings at 7-3 with six games remaining.
