PORTLAND, Ore. - Trailing by one and in possession of the ball with six seconds left, Portland came up empty on their game winning attempt and fell to Linn-Benton CC 63-62 at Cascade Gym.
Laney Snelling scored a driving layup for LBCC on the previous play, which proved to be the deciding points.
The game was a close one throughout, with nine lead changes including the final three possessions of the game. Lilly Walker had given PCC the lead with 15 second left, putting the Panthers ahead 62-61. Walker's number was called again on the final play, but was whistled for the offensive foul handing Linn-Benton the upset road win.
Iris Cubit scored 22 points for PCC, leading all players. Walker finished with 16 on 7 of 12 shooting.
The result muddies the NWAC South playoff picture, with Portland sitting in 5th place at 7-4. The Panthers take on Chemeketa CC on Wednesday, who are also 7-4 in region play.
