COOS BAY, Ore. - Iris Cubit poured in a career best 33 points to lead Portland CC past Southwestern Oregon 55-46 today in NWAC South Region action.
Cubit was a force in the paint, hitting 11 of 18 shots and making all 11 of her free throw attempts. Her 11 points in the first quarter helped the Panthers to a 17-9 lead that endured the rest of the game.
Portland never trailed over the 40 minutes of play, and led by as many as 19 points (35-16) in the 2nd quarter. SWOC finished that period with an 8-0 run however, setting up a competitive second half.
The effort from PCC was solid in the 3rd quarter, and they enjoyed a 13 point advantage heading into the final frame. The host Lakers had ideas for a comeback, and nearly made it happen. SWOC cut the gap down to four points (49-45) with 1:23 to play, but Cubit calmly sank 6 of 6 free throw attempts down the stretch to seal the big road win for the Panthers.
