Panthers Overcome Slow Start Versus Chemeketa

SALEM, Ore. - Portland CC overcame a 15 point first quarter deficit, storming back to win 70-53 at Chemeketa CC yesterday in Salem.

It looked to be one of those nights for the Panthers, as they saw the host Storm jump out to a 23-8 lead after the first 10 minutes of action. PCC committed four turnovers and made just four field goals, highlighting their struggles. Chemeketa took full advantage, hitting 10 of 18 from the floor and giving the ball away just once.

PCC began to right the ship in the 2nd period, holding the storm to just two field goals and making the score a manageable 34-26 at halftime.

The second half became the Lilly Walker show, as the freshman racked up 19 points on 9 of 11 shooting. Back-to-back baskets from Walker pushed Portland into the lead at 1:32 to play in the 3rd quarter, and PCC would not trail again.

The 4th quarter was all Panthers, as the visitors racked up 27 points in the period to win the game comfortably.

Walker's 19 points was the game high for PCC. JaLay Harris-Burns added a season best 16 points and 6 assists.
