Portland Defeats Clackamas in Exciting Match

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC scored a season best four goals in an exciting 4-2 win over Clackamas today at Rock Creek Campus.

The contest got off to a slow start initially, with both teams focused on defense in the opening moments. PCC managed to find some success going forward, and generated six first half corner kicks. One of those set pieces resulted in the first goal. A corner kick service in the 39th minute was mishandled by the Cougar goalkeeper, and the ball fell to the feet of Ilsa Balbuena Vasquez. The freshman snapped a foot at the chance, and buried her shot into the top corner from six yards out.

The host Panthers tacked on two more goals in the second half over a two minute stretch that left the visiting Cougars stunned. Mira Thornton scored her second goal of the season in the 52nd minute with a well place shot from 12 yards out. Less than two minutes later, Melanie Alcantar Lopez made it 3-0 with a nice finish after a through pass from Thornton.

Clackamas were on their heels, but the resilient Cougars gave PCC a real scare by scoring two goals of their own in quick succession. Skylar Ross tallied both scores in the 67th and 72nd minutes to give the visitors a lift.

PCC regrouped to close out the game, and added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute. Aleena Calvert moved from her usual goalkeeper spot to play in the field, and found the net to seal the victory for the Panthers.
