PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC held off a strong challenge from Chemeketa CC tonight, winning 84-74 at Harold Williams Court.
The visiting Storm enjoyed a strong start, and built an early 17-9Â lead. PCC came back to tied the game at 20-20, then the two sides essentially played even-up basketball the rest of the half. The Panthers held a slim lead at the break, 38-37.
PCC scored the first basket of the second half, and did not trail at any point in the period though their lead did not reach double figures until 2:24 to play. Jackson Leach scored 19 of his team high 25 points in the second half, and his 10 of 10 effort kept Chemeketa at arms length in the closing moments. The Storm found scoring opportunities, but their comeback attempt was thwarted by their struggles at the free throw line (11 of 26).
In addition to Leach's 25 points, Daniel James offered 16 points and 13 rebounds. Jamie McGrail added 13 points and six assists, while Jason Amens contributed 10 points.
