VANCOUVER, Wash. - Portland CC emerged as 60-57 winners of a defensive battle versus Clark yesterday, moving the Panther's record in the NWAC South standings to 4-3.
The contest featured two teams that struggled to score with any consistency. PCC won the game despite making just 16 of 69 shots - a season low of 23 percent. The host Penguins struggled almost as much, hitting at a 26 percent rate (24 of 91).
The difference in the final outcome turned out to be the free throw line. Despite the shooting woes, Portland stayed aggressive which led to 31 attempts from the charity stripe where they made 23. On the other hand, Clark was 5 of 12.
The teams slugged it out through four quarters, with Clark eventually taking a 53-50 lead with 1:44 to play. A three point play from Lilly Walker tied the game, and after the teams traded three point makes Walker put PCC in front for good at 58-56 with a tough score in the paint. BettyAnn Wilson sealed the game with two free throws with seven seconds left.
Walker led the way with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Kaylee Foster added 12 points and nine rebounds.
