PORTLAND, Ore. - Top ranked Umpqua remained undefeated on the season after winning at Portland, 90-58 inside Cascade Gym.
For the host Panthers the 2nd quarter was the pivotal period, which has been a pattern for PCC - for good or ill. PCC was right in the game during this 1st quarter, trailing just 21-18 after 10 minutes of action. But the visiting Riverhawks outscored the hosts 25-6 in the 2nd which led to a 46-24 halftime lead.
The rest of the game was generally competitive, but Umpqua also dominated the rebounding battle 56-27 which blunted all attempts by the Panthers to rally.
Portland was getting good pressure on Umpqua ball handlers resulting in 24 turnovers by UCC, but gave up too many offensive rebounds (16) to get any traction.
Amelia Echternkamp shook off a slow start to finish with 16 points and six assists. Lilly Walker (15) and Kaylee Foster (13) were also in double figures.
