PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC gained a foothold in their quest for a playoff spot after defeating Linn-Benton 67-48 yesterday at Harold Williams Court.
The result moved the Panthers into 4th place in the NWAC South standings at 5-4, slightly ahead of rivals Chemeketa at 4-4, and Linn-Benton who drop to 4-5.
The Panthers were on the front foot from the opening tip, outscoring the Roadrunners 23-12 in the 1st quarter. The lead only grew through the 2nd quarter, and PCC took a 43-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Linn-Benton mustered a better effort in the second half defensively, and held Portland to just two field goals in the 4th period. The margin was too great however, and Portland also remained stingy on the defensive end, holding LBCC to 30 percent shooting for the game.
BettyAnn Wilson was active as usual, finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Amelia Echternkamp (12), Lilly Walker (12), Kaylee Foster (10), and Tali Sanders (10) also scored double figures.
