PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland forced 22 turnovers and held Mt. Hood to 35 percent shooting in a 77-52 win over the Saints today at Cascade Gym.
The result was a comfortable win for the Panthers, but it was Mt. Hood that started the game strong. The Saints jumped out to a 10-2 lead with some well executed set plays while holding PCC to one shot at the other end. Amelia Echternkamp helped right the ship with eight points in the quarter, leading Portland all the way back to a 25-16 advantage heading into the second quarter.
The defense really clamped down in the 2nd period, as PCC held the Saints to just seven points. The effort pushed the gap even farther at halftime in favor of PCC, 40-23.
The Panther lead continued to grow until it reached it apex at 61-32 in the 3rd quarter. The Saints did stage a mini-rally closing to within 64-46, but five straight points from Kaylee Foster made the outcome all but certain.
Echternkamp led all Panther scorers with 20 points. BettyAnn Wilson flirted with a quadruple-double, adding 10 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists, and 7 steals. Kennedy Cook contributed 12 points off the bench.
