Panthers Victorious at Umpqua, Post Season Awaits

SUTHERLIN, Ore. - Portland CC completed their regular season slate with a clutch 1-0 win at Umpqua CC today. The result gives the Panthers the 3rd seed in the NWAC playoffs with a 6-3-3 record (21 points) in region play.

The Panthers ended the regular season tied with Lane CC, but PCC wins the tiebreaker thanks to head-to-head outcomes. Portland tied the Titans 0-0 in Eugene, then defeated Lane 1-0 last week in Portland.

Both Umpqua and Portland approached the contest with a defensive posture, hoping to minimize costly errors and take advantage of opportunities when they materialized.

Scoring opportunities were difficult to come by, but it was the Panthers who took their chance in the 39th minute. Joselyn De Los Santos curled in a corner kick from the left side that found defender Tiffany Rodriguez who made a late run into the penalty area. She took her shot on the volley and the ball deflected off a Riverhawk defender and into the net.

Goalkeepers Evelyn Hollingsworth and Natalie Oveira combined for six saves and shared the shutout.
