PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC stood up the high pressure for three quarters, but watched the game slip away at the end versus Olympic in a 56-43 loss inside Cascade Gym.
The Panthers fought hard to lead 35-30 midway through the 3rd quarter and looked to secure the upset win, but were outscored 26-8 the rest of the way as turnovers and missed free throws took their toll.
The Panthers played a strong defensive game themselves, as fencing off the lane to prevent easy baskets was a focus. The Rangers tried to counter with three point heaves, but only connected on 8 of 42 tries. OC finished the game with a meager 23 percent shooting accuracy. Portland was happy to corral the misses and ended up winning the rebounding battle 54 to 49.
Despite the shooting woes from Olympic, the Panthers were unable to capitalize consistently due to the ball handling miscues (30 turnovers) and free throw shooting problems. PCC made it to the line 40 times, but converted just 19 of them.
Eva LeBlanc led Portland with 9 points and 9 rebounds, while Kamakila Waiwaiole added 7 points and 12 rebounds.Â
